1. How many cameras — and where
The camera count is the obvious one. Placement is less obvious and matters more. Covering entry and exit points, the cash counter and the real blind spots often needs fewer, better-placed cameras than scattering cheap ones everywhere. It is also what your insurance and Gujarat's CCTV law expect.
2. Camera type and resolution
A basic indoor dome, a weatherproof outdoor bullet, and a motorised PTZ that pans across a yard are three different price points. So is 2MP versus 4MP versus higher. More megapixels means clearer faces and number plates, but also more storage (point 4). The right answer depends on what you need to recognise, not the biggest number on the box.
3. The cable — where most "cheap" quotes hide the catch
This is the one to watch. Cheap installers use copper-clad-aluminium (CCA) cable and sell it as the real thing. It looks identical on day one and starts failing within months. Over long runs it simply will not carry a clean signal.
